by Shy Al Caliph started lively as we controlled possession and dominated play. Opponents attacks were dealt with swiftly and efficiently and we started to create a few chances, one of which a deft through ball by Zamri following neat interchange play with Shahril put Shy through on goal but his shot was saved by the keeper at full stretch. Al Caliph continued pouring forward as our midfield gained control and soon after, one of their players were sent off for a studs up sliding tackle on Mahdi. Tyrus was then sent on to add speed to the attack and his involvement was immediate as he was pushed inside the penalty box and Al Caliph was awarded a penalty. Shy stepped up and took the initiative. He scored but the referee ruled it out after Aizad had stepped into the box before the ball was being kicked. On the second attempt, he skied his effort, with the keeper having dived the wrong way. Al Caliph continued attacking the opponents but somehow their defence and keeper stood firm.
The second half started like it was in the first with Al Caliph determined to find the breakthrough. We were duly rewarded when Tyrus slid the ball in for Zamri on the right and Zamri smashed the ball across the goalkeeper. Al Caliph 1 Validus 0. Spurred by the goal, we pressed on for the killer second. One move led to a goalmouth scramble where shot after shot, they were blocked by either their defender or their goalkeeper. Credit has to be given to the opposition for defending valiantly despite being a man down. Luck was also missing when Zamri’s lob beat their goalkeeper but not the crossbar after he was put through on goal by Malek. The game ended one nil to Al Caliph
