Al-Caliph has never had good record against Aces United. Last season lost over two legs proved the opponent to be the real aces. The team still remembered that two eventful games. Putting aside those losses, the team was determined to stay at the top of the table.
The game started well for Al-Caliph despite Aces’ aggressiveness and organized play. Al-Caliph kept the pressure on the opponent and was rewarded an early goal through Tyrus who headed off a throw from Bob. Spirits were high and despite pressure by both sides, the score remained at 1-0 during half-time.
In the second half, Aces were even more determined and had chances at goal. Al-Caliph had a very close shave when Faizal made an on-the-line clearance from one of Aces deadly corner kick. Aces finally managed to equalize through a free kick from outside the penalty box. This spurred Aces and they pressed on to find the winning goal.
Al-Caliph did not let the equalizer dampen their spirit. Both sides kept on attacking but can’t seem to find the final touches. The deadlock was broken when Aces’ keeper did not manage to clear Al-Caliph’s free kick properly and Fahmie volleyed in the goal. The final score, 2-1 to Al-Caliph, the Ace of Spade.
