Al Caliph FC extended their lead at the top of the table after a win over Aces Utd, one of the main competitors for the league title. The scoreline was a fair reflection of the game proceeding, with Al Caliph unlucky to concede the first goal yet again. Aces Utd's veteran striker, Roc scored their only goal after Al Caliph FC failed to clear away the ball from a throw-in. He managed to hook the ball over Al Caliph FC's goalkeeper, Anuar and into the far corner for the first goal of the match.
Rather than dropping our heads, Al Caliph sprung into action in search for the equaliser. The team's effort was duly rewarded when Khai was brought down by Aces Utd goalkeeper in the penalty box after breaking the offside trap. Khai stood up and dispatched the ball pass the goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. The penalty was the last noticeable effort at goal before the half time whistle was blown.
Knowing a win will widen the gap between us and the chasing pack, Al Caliph FC came out for the 2nd half bombarding Aces Utd's goal. Al Caliph FC finally went in front after Aces Utd's goalkeeper failed to handle Khai's corner kick. Kathir was the first to pounce on the spill and with a swing of his left leg, the ball whizzed past the defenders standing on the line before they could even react.
Aces Utd tried to turn the tide by pushing more attackers up into Al Caliph's half but was denied once and again by the defensive unit of the team. Al Caliph was playing a brilliant counter attacking game and extended the lead after our ace striker, Khai got his second goal of the match. Khai was hoping for the best when he started his chase for a hopeful long punt up the field. He was fortunate when Aces Utd's goalkeeper failed to control the ball and Khai was left with a simple stroll into the goal. 3-1 to Al Caliph FC and the score remained till the referee signalled the end of the match with the final whistle.
It was a well deserved win for the team and one that sent out a clear warning to our rivals that Al Caliph FC is bent on winning the title this time round. Another 10 matches to go and the team must stay focused to achieve our aim of becoming the champion.
