Al Caliph got another 3 points in the bag with a 3-1 win over LSFC. Goals from Khai and Dinesh ensure that we are in a good position to take over the lead from Marceles FC.
Al Caliph clicked into gear right from the first whistle. Waves and waves of attacks were launched but poor plays in the final third prevented any scoring being made. All this changed in the 19th minute when Faizal was fouled outside the penalty box. Khai was tasked with taking the freekick and he did not disappoint as he sent the ball sailing over the goalkeeper and into the top right hand corner of the goal. 1-0 to Al Caliph. The goal calmed the nerves of the players and their confidence grew.
The second goal came about through Faizal’s persistence and Dinesh’s flash of brilliance in the 23rd minute. The ball seems destined to go out of play near the half way line when Faizal chased after it and volleyed the ball into the middle of the park. The ball landed nicely onto Dinesh’s feet. Dinesh took the ball in his stride and take on the challenges of a few LSFC’s players. None of them were able to take the ball off him and within a blink of an eye, he was facing the goalkeeper in a one on one situation. He calmly slotted the ball into the net giving the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever. 2-0 to Al Caliph.
Dinesh started to get more and more into the game after scoring the goal. Soon, he capitalized on Shahril’s assist and got another goal in his account in the 30th minute. Some nice footwork from Shahril saw him took the ball into the 6-yard box. He was about to pull the trigger when a LSFC’s defender upended him. Though the referee did not blow for a foul, the ball rolled nicely into Dinesh’s path and he was able to put the ball into an empty net for the team’s third goal. 3-0 to Al Caliph.
Even though Al Caliph was on top of the game in the second half, they failed to add on to the score as complacency sets in. Al Caliph gifted a goal to their opponent when their striker latched onto a hopeful ball punt into the penalty area. Somehow, he was able to hold off the attention of three defenders and put the ball past Jabbar for a consolation goal.
The game fizzled out after the final goal of the game with the only talking point being the injury sustained by Dinesh nearing the end of the game. Dinesh was looking for his hat-trick when a “stud facing up” tackle was dished out by the last man from LSFC. He caught Dinesh in the shin and a red card for his moment of folly. Dinesh was unable to carry on after the bad tackle and the final whistle was blown not long after that incident.
