The scorching heat and a larger than life pitch greeted both teams as the trodded onto the pitch to begin the game. Such a combination would generally dissuade many football players from putting in their best, but someone forgot to tell the Al Caliph players that last Sunday morning. Their opponents began in lively fashion, attacking mainly down the flanks and hoping to pop a decent cross into the box for their lone striker to latch on to. Credit has to be given to their wingers, who really worked tirelessly trying to break down the Al Caliph defence. Fortunately, the defence stood firm, providing a steady platform upon which the midfield and lethal strikeforce could leverage.
This superiority showed with a well-taken goal by Aizad, who ran through on goal folllowing a precise throughball from Khai, who himself put in a very dedicated shift on the left wing. Omar then put Zam through on goal with only the keeper to beat, and the experienced player put his chance away well. Our opponents then got a goal back from a very well-taken freekick that flew past the out-stretched arm of the keeper. However, the match was duly wrapped up when Kathir was tripped in the box, with Shahril slotting home the penalty, and Khai putting Shy through to make it 4-1.
It was definitely a good run out for the team, who showed very encouraging signs, with their intricate play about and around the opponents' penalty box, though it may be noted that there will be more difficult teams to be faced, starting with next week's match against Rendezvous, for which concentration and equal, if not greater, dedication would be needed if Al Caliph were to achieve the result we know we are capable of attaining.
