After a long ‘international’ break, Al-Caliph finally saw some action against La Serpiente as they continue their ascent to the top of the D2D Div 1 League. Most of the players were glad if not eager to get back into field and they were hoping to add to measly goal tally this season. The game started with a frenzy as both sides were eager to stamp their authority. Al-Caliph drew first blood as Feroz was on hand to finish off an intricate team move. Not to be outdone, Kathir also managed to get his name on the scoresheet after popping up at the end of awesome cross from the left.
Up to that moment, Al-Calpih’s defence was coping well with sporadic attacks made by the opponents. However, a sudden loss of concentration presented the La Serpiente with a one-on-one opportunity. Despite the best efforts of the stand-in keeper Shy, he was unable to keep the ball out. Al-Caliph’s reply came in swift and deadly. Right from the resulting kick-off, Hidayat sent a Howitzer through the opponent’s half and the ball nestled into the net. La Serpiente’s thoughts of mounting a comeback were also dashed when Shahril finally opened his scoring account this season. The half-time whistle perhaps came as a relief to the opponents.
The second half saw less action as both sides were guilty of losing the ball at the attacking third of the field as both defences stood firm. La Serpiente managed to pull one back when another lapse allowed them through but Zamri’s goal late in the match added some gloss to an already flattering score-line. Final score: 5-2.
