On 22nd March 2015 on pitch 11 at HYFA, a Sunday which ALL teachers in Singapore dread the most, AlCaliph looked to continue their red-hot winning streak against fellow title hopefuls Kallang CS. The day did not start that brightly as players were late and some even lamented about lack of carpark and all that. #firstworldproblems
First goal AlCaliph started the poorer of the 2 teams as both sides try to capitalize on each other’s mistakes but Kallang CS had better chances but expert defending and confident goalkeeping kept the scoreline goalless. AlCaliph also had a few chances to go one up but poor finishing and some superb off-the-line clearance by Navin helped Kallang to breathe easy. Well done Navin. (Coach update : Coach laughing at this point...) As the boring half almost came to a close, Dinesh won a free kick on the right side of the opponent’s half. Captain Khaiii kept the free kick on target with enough curl and strength to force the keeper to spill the ball and MOM Yanto tapped in from close range. 1-0 totally against the run of play.
Second goal The second half started and the heat began to overwhelm some of the players. AlCaliph had a brilliant chance to double their lead but Khai’s tame shot was easily saved by the on-loan-from-Projectvaults Goalkeeper. However, that did not stop him from capitalizing on an expert through pass by Feroz. Khai then beat the defender and sent the ball high to send everyone in a boisterous cheer. However, things were about to turn ugly. In the words of Nizam, “ALAMAK! Apa Jadi?!”
Kallang’s First Goal Zhaf came on in the 60th minute and made a huge difference to the team. Positive or negative? You decide. Hehe. (Coach update: coach laughing again...) The aspiring 2xu half-marathonner claimed that his “engine wasn’t warmed up yet” and the overlapping run made by the opponent’s left back allowed the latter to dispatch a cross across the penalty box. The plump-sized right mid latched on to it and hit it first time with his inside foot. Glorious goal I must say. Off the post. Beyond Phang’s reach. Simply brilliant. Kallang were on the loose. Kallang’s Second Goal Barely a few minutes later, as AlCaliph failed to clear their lines, their import striker, who was a menace throughout, managed to roll Kennard before unleashing a ferocious shot. Phang could not do much as he was caught by surprise and the sheer power almost burst through the net. Kallang were buoyant. They were more hungry. They have restored parity. Nothing more than they deserve with our lackadaisical defending. However, bodybuilder Nadeem had different ideas in mind.
WINNING GOAL LA SIOL! Bodybuilder Nadeem spent a lot of time at the gym. Both working out, looking at girls and also sharpening his stealth running. He managed to ghost in at the far post as Aizad flicked on Kennard’s free kick. With his left foot, he managed to outwit/outplay/outlast the goalkeeper who was stunned to see Nadeem there. 3-2!!! Not many people wanted to celebrate with him in fear that he might use his sinewy muscles in the wrong way.
Eventually, AlCaliph shored up the defence and managed to come away with a vital 3-2 win and the title is very much in our hands right now. Bring on the homeboyz! #gobigorgohome
