Al-Caliph fought hard to achieve a 1-1 draw with defending champion Blackjack. We were short of players due to other pressing commitment thus were forced to reshuffle. The reshuffling had denied us a good attacking lineup.
To accomodate our shortfall, specific instructions were given before the match and I am very proud to say that each player adhered to them. The team was very well disciplined and structured. Every player gave their all when called upon for the team's cause. Defensively we were sound. We had our chances when we attacked. If only we had been sharper, the result would have been different.
Although I prefer that we had won, a draw in this game suffice in consideration of the odds we faced. My opposite number said that we had good team. I returned the compliment.
Physical Fitness The lack of physical fitness had been a factor that I have changed tactics today. To my amazement, I had to withdraw three players from a different position in the first half - which was different than I had earlier planned. If we are going to get through this league, we have to improve on this quickly. Everyone has ownership and responsibility. In the end, fitness will dictate your contribution to the team.
Man of the Match Zamri had an almost excellent game. He was into challenges and not pulling out of any tackles. He was everywhere. Given that he is an attacking player, I had expected to lose him upfield however he gave up his predatory instincts for the team's cause.
He is new to the team and had only played four games with us. The players he is aquainted with are Faisal and Mahdi. Yet, he gave his all to the team. It is without question where his dedication lies. Today was his working day and he took time off to be with the team.
Today was a huge team effort and everyone deserve to be mentioned. Zamri stood out and I am thankful that the other players saw his contribution. For his dedication to duty and tenacity of purpose, I award him with the Man of the Match.
