Al-Caliph persevered against Vipers to record a 2-1 win. Vipers, being a skilful and fast team, proved to be a hard team to beat. Last season, defensive lapses especially in our defence saw the team going down 3-4 after taking a quick lead. This season, we were much more composed and decisive.

We were quick to snuff out danger especially in the air. We had numbers and positionally we are better. Although we started well, we could not capitalise. Then, we were not getting to the ball first. That resulted in astray passes. Soon we were blunt upfront. Im very pleased that a short pointer on positioning during half time talk were adapted by the players. We were challenging for balls much better in the second. Certain tactics I deploy are based on our strength and weakness. Until there is a substantial change, the team is to adhere to it.

Yet again, we made life difficult for ourselves. However, as Omar said, it is one of our strength. I believe this is so. We need to improve other areas so that we can then be a whole team.

Players I was very happy with the numbers once again. I could freshen things up when I needed it although in actual fact, the technical combination was a bit lacking. Hence, I couldnt adjust much. Fortunately, most were able to maintain their performance. Frankly, Doc wanted out in the second half as he was not in the right frame of mind. I told him, he has to do it as I was unable to plug anyone else in central defence. Im glad he did it even though it was his first game with us in the tournament. Yan did well in right back although he has to hold on to the ball much better. Cina did better than the last 2 games combined. Once again Shahril did good. That stood out for me. Fortunately, he didnt walk. :)

Ok ok, to clear my conscience, I have to mention Zj did very well... yawn................... yawn (just by reading the sentence again)

On the downside, fitness was telling and Im having a problem linking the team. I have spoken to the player concern and he is aware of it. As it is a difficult position to fulfil, I have to do some adjustment and experiment in games to come. Doc once said, "Abg Ali, cannot ah. I run round and round dont know what to do. Leave me alone at center back."

I feel for every player. I see your body language, I try to understand. I may have sympathy but I have no tolerance. I have no sentiment towards any player. You perform you play, you don't you are out no matter how technically good you are. Whether you are family or my bosom buddy or a friend, all equal. I will give time but if things persist to not be happening, I might as well put another paying player on it. The end result will not have mattered. I have confidence and expectation level for each player. No heroes, only warriors.

Khai came good in the second half. He made my decision to include him back in the team correct. Jeff nearly made Straits Time headlines. Now, twice he was in good position to score. Make it third time lucky. Jeff is running and playing badminton midweek in his bid to get into shape. Kudos.

Man of the Match It took 3 friendlies and 3 tournament matches for me to award Zamri MOM. Like I said I have different level of expectation for each player. He put in an astute performance yet again, chasing and closing opponents. If only I had actim.

In all honesty, Khai stood out in the second half. It was a quick and amazing turnaround. I had him in mind for MOM because of the turnaround. He took the early substitution as time to reflect, not as an insult. He proved his weight in gold in the second.

Ok ok, Zj was also a contender...yawn...
